The Group Hotel Bettoja in Rome and Florence has a secular history. The story of the Bettoja family begins in 1875, originating in Piedmont, and after five generations still remains active in the Hotel industry. The adventure began with the acquisition of the Restaurant Massimo D'Azeglio, so called in honour of the great statesman and writer; later, with the development in the area of Termini Station, the Bettoja family decided to buy the rest of the building and transform it into a hotel - the Hotel Massimo D'Azeglio. The second acquisition was Hotel Mediterraneo, which was followed by Hotel Atlantico and finally Hotel Nord Nuova Roma. Between the two wars. In 1988 was purchased the Relais Certosa in Florence.
The Group today has over 1,000 rooms in 5 hotels, which are periodically modernized while still maintaining their traditional atmosphere. The four hotels in Rome are in the downtown area, near the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Opera House and Termini Railway Station. During the past years, the railway station, and the entire surrounding area has undergone a period of great development with significant cultural and commercial investments. Other major points of historical interest can be found in the immediate vicinity
In Florence, the beautiful Hotel Relais Certosa, created in 1400 as the guest quarters for the Certosa Monastery and later transformed into a Bettoja Group Hotel, boasts a view of the Certosa Monastery and is surrounded by 15 acres of a park-like setting.
Today, Bettoja Hotels is the largest privately-owned family hotel chain in Italy. The 1,000 rooms of the group offer a vast range of possibilities, from luxurious suites at the Mediterraneo to the more modest single rooms at Hotel Nord Nuova Roma. Bettoja Hotels offer their tourist and business guests the most modern and comfortable conveniences.
The Bettoja tradition of excellent service and cuisine has been passed down through five generations, and even among their personnel, you will easily find employees whose fathers and grandfathers worked at the same hotel!
The current President of the group is Angelo Bettoja, a skilled director and cheerful host, accompanied by his American wife Jo, who is an expert in Italian cooking and the author of a number of cook books, who has integrated Italian culture with her Southern United States roots.
All of the Bettojas bring with them experience from important fields such as business, communications, architecture and Art History. For those guests arriving by car in Rome, the Bettoja Hotel Group has an underground garage available at Hotel Mediterraneo. The Relais Certosa in Florence offers ample outside parking in front of the Hotel.
