Hotel Eisenhut

Engaged with tradition...
During the Middle Ages already the Herrngasse was the center of Rothenburg. All the buildings belonged to Patricians, the most powerful and richest families of the town. Four of the former patrician houses, from which three are dating from 16th century are forming today the Hotel Eisenhut. The oldest one, in which there is now the main entrance and the reception-hall had been a small chapel, called St. Nicholas, from the 12th to the 16th century. The old Gothic iron door, on the left of the reception-desk, is originating from this chapel. Later on, the Winterbach Family, one of Rothenburg's most important families, occupied this building.
Here, in 1876 Georg Andreas Eisenhut started a small inn where he sold the wines which he cultivated in the Tauber valley. As he had no son, it was his son-in-law Johann Andreas Ploss who created the Hotel Eisenhut in order to provide the ever increasing number of visitors with a decent hotel in Rothenburg. In 1924, again it was due to the outstanding abilities of Georg Pirner, son in law of Johann Andreas Ploss and his wife Paula that the Hotel Eisenhut became one of the best hotels in Germany and famous all over the world. At present Hans J. Pirner great-gand-son of the founder Georg Andreas Eisenhut continues the tradition in the usual manner.
